Information Services & Adult ProgrammingWWPL's Information and Reference Services Department offers a variety of programs, classes and materials. There are two book discussion groups that meet once a month as well as an online book club accessible anytime. The outreach program serves two local retirement communities and the homebound. The literacy program offers English as a Second Language (ESL) for all ages with skilled tutors and convenient class meeting times. AARP Free TaxBeginning in February, AARP will again offer free tax assistance at the library. Representatives will be in the Sumner Room every Friday from February 10 to April 6. Appointments are available between 10:30am and 2:30pm. You will need to register in advance. Please contact Information/Reference Services at 317-896-9391 Ext. 117, to reserve a spot. Please note: The IRS will not be mailing paper tax forms this year, and only a limited amount of forms will be available at the library. We will also be glad to print forms from the Internet for you at a cost of 10¢ per page for black and white and 25¢ per page for color. We will not print copies of the instruction booklets due to their size. Remember: You may be able to file online for both Federal and State.
Upcoming ProgramMusical Tribute to the CCC by Bill Jamerson on March 10th (Saturday) @ 11AM.
Since 1992, Bill Jamerson has researched the Civilian Conservation Corps, the 1930's jobs program. He produced a PBS documentary, wrote a novel and recorded a CD of original songs. In this program, he will tell stories, read his book, show a video clip and sing original songs. He has presented his program in eleven states for over 100 libraries and for dozens of state and National Parks, from the Great Smokey Mountains to Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
New Reference MaterialWe have acquired a current copy of Solutions: a Central Indiana Resource Guide for Seniors, Persons with Disabilities and Family Caregivers by CICOA Aging and In-home Solutions. CICOA serves Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Morgan and Shelby counties. CICOA's mission is to help older persons and those of any age with a disability to live with greatest possible independence, dignity and quality of life. The Basic Needs section of the guide includes programs that furnish survival level resources including food, housing, material goods, transportation and utilities for individuals with low or fixed incomes, people who are homeless, older adults and/or people with disabilities who are otherwise unable to adequately provide for themselves and their families. It also included related services that are available to the community at large. Other sections are Consumer Services, Education & Enrichment, Health Care, Income Support, Individual & Family Life, Legal Services, Mental Health & Substance Abuse, Organizational/Community Services, Country Senior Services, and Caregiver Services. The guide is kept at the Reference desk so stop by if you would like to look at it.
WWPL Receives Donation of Knitting Book CollectionThe fall and winter months are the perfect time for knitting, crochet, and needlework crafts! WWPL has recently received a generous donation of many wonderful yarn-related books from Molli Cameron of Stitches & Scones. Stop by our craft section of the library to browse these beautiful books, many with color photographs and project instructions. If you have a yarn stash to use, you’ll want to check out a basket full to browse at home. Many thanks to Stitches & Scones for their donation to the library & for allowing us to have one of the best knitting book collections in the area!
